Max Ng received his B.Sc. in Combined Honours Mathematics and Physics (with first-class standing) from the University of Victoria, and his M.Sc. in Physics and M.S.S. in Software System from the University of British Columbia. He has 25+ years of experience tutoring high school and university mathematics and physics.

Before founding Vectors & Quanta, Ng was engaged in scientific research. His research interest was in the field of atmospheric and oceanic dynamics. He held research positions at Environment Canada, at the Meteorology Section of the Atomic Energy of Canada, and the Department of Oceanography of the University of British Columbia. His research papers were published in authoritative journals Science and the Journal of Geophysical Research. Also the findings on tsunami propagation were presented at the twenty-third Annual Congress of the Canadian Meteorological & Oceanography Society.
